Understanding the process of chronic/persistent pain.
"I have worked closely with patients suffering from Hypermobility syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Fibromyalgia, and Meniscal injuries of the knee.
My experience has taught me that no two patients are alike, everyone is individual and will present with their own unique puzzle! "
I developed an interest in becoming an Osteopath after seeing the positive effect treatment had on a family member, who was suffering severe back pain. Following this, I shadowed an Osteopath before starting my studies at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Four years later, after a lot of hard studying, I graduated with a Master's degree and achieved a distinction grade in the final clinical competency exam.
Since then, I have continued to refine my skills and knowledge of the body in order to provide the best care possible for my patients. I work structurally as an Osteopath which follows on from my training, this basically means I have a hands on approach. This may include soft tissue techniques, mobilisations and manipulation if and when required.
Further still, I have a particular interest in the psychology of pain. I continue my learning in this subject and have recently taken a course in cognitive behavioural therapy for low back pain. Understanding pain neuroscience allows me to further understand and help patients with chronic or persistent pain.
I love my job as an Osteopath, no day is ever the same! In the morning I may help a patient with pain in their shoulder, the next patient may be suffering with headaches, and the next may have low back problems. I have worked closely with patients suffering from Hypermobility syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Fibromyalgia, and Meniscal injuries of the knee. My experience has taught me that no two patients are alike, everyone is individual and will present with their own unique puzzle! Thankfully I thoroughly enjoy the complexity that each person brings alongside providing the appropriate treatment to get you feeling better again!
When I am not working, I love to go traveling and see different corners of the globe, and I have lived in Australia for 6 months. I have recently started practising yoga (after preaching to so many patients its benefits). I enjoy going for long walks. The rest of my free time is spent playing board and card games with friends.
