Frequently Asked Questions
Generally a physio will give you exercises, a chiropractor will 'crack/pop' you and osteopath will likely do both of those (providing it's appropriate) with a lot of soft tissue/ massage and mobilisations in-between.
This question gets harder over the years of experience to answer as there is a lot of cross-over between the professions, the main thing is to understand how your practitioner works and whether this suits you. A good website should tell you this or if you can, even call and speak with someone to be sure of what you are getting.
We offer free contact calls with all our Osteopaths if you would like to discuss your case before booking. You can book online for this.
Will you feel easier? Yes. Will it take more than that?
Yes, generally it will take more than one treatment to get you pain free long-term.
This is usually because it's taken a while for the the pain or discomfort to arise and when most people truly think about when it started, it's normally much longer than they realise!
Yes. Your first appointment will involve a detailed assessment, examination and then treatment.
If we find during the initial appointment something unusual that needs further investigation before treating safely, we will discuss this with you and ensure we agree upon another date to continue once we know we are safe to do so.
Yes and no. Everything is done within your comfort level.
This is difficult to answer as if you have come in with acute back pain, everything will hurt whatever you do! However we can certainly ease things.
There is constant communication between you and your practitioner to understand where your comfort level is within your appointment. Often an area can be sore where you may be compensating, we can use a range of techniques to ensure it's within your threshold to make a change.
